The main central streets of Jiefang Road and Zhengyang Pedestrian Street, and along the river, are the main eating areas. Many outlets are quite touristy and overpriced, however, but take your cues from the locals and head for the side streets to discover a veritable hive of non-pretentious places. 

One must-try local specialty is Guilin rice noodles ( Guilin mi fen), which is served just about everywhere, while horse hoof cake ( ma ti gao) is ideal for a mid-morning snack. 

Zhengyang Pedestrian Street
Although somewhat touristy and therefore overpriced, Zhengyang Pedestrian Street is the main thoroughfare to dine at. It is a traffic-free street and has bags of atmosphere, making it popular with locals for its shopping and local fare. Guilinese Good luck Restaurant is one of the best known restaurants here and there is also a large dining hall that has traditional Chinese music being played. 

Yiren Lu
Yiren Lu Street is just off of the Zhengyang Pedestrian Street and is a good alternative for those who don’t like crowds as it is less touristy. Here, you will find a good selection of local eateries, along with familiar fast food joints like McDonald’s and KFC. 

Mong Kok Food Street
Mong Kok is also super-touristy and a great place to wander day or night, with its bustling, pedestrianised alleys and bright signs. It is located near Central Square and the Bell Tower and comes with all types of familiar Chinese eateries. 

Nanhuan Lu
Nanhuan Lu is also in the center of town, although its eating options tend to put a lot of Westerners off, where caged animals are put on display outside ready for your order. If you don’t fancy those, there are also plenty of standard noodle and rice outlets.

Guilin rice noodles are well notable for the special flavor throughout China. The well selected rice are ground into thick liquid which are then filter into a lump. As different ingredients and methods are used to stew soup, the rice noodles are separated into different kinds like hot and sour rice noodles and beef rice noodles. Lipu Taro Looped Meat
Lipu Taro Looped Meat are a famous traditional dish in Guilin. With best taro picked up in Lipu County, delicious Lipu Taro Looped Meat lies in seasoning and various materials like Guilin fermented bean curd. How to cook Lipu Taro Looped Meat? The streaky pork and taros should be cut into strips and then these strips should be deep fried into golden in vegetable oil. Then smear Guilin fermented bean curd and add other ingredients and wait until the pork become soft. This dish can be tasted in almost all restaurants in Guilin.
Yangshui Beer Fish
Guilin FoodYangshuo beer fish is the most famous local cuisine with tasteful spicy flavor. The fresh carps are caught from Li River. When cooking, the carp first is fried in the oil and then braised in the beer. When you pay a visit to Yangshuo, the beer fish is a must-try. Many restaurants on the West Street of Yangshuo are specialized in beer fish.
Lotus Leaf Steamed Meat
The main materials in this dish include streaky pork, mung bean flour, lotus leaf, Guilin fermented bean curd and other condiments. Before cooking, the lotus leaf must be washed and the raw streaky pork should be cooked. Smear fermented bean curd on the pork and add other condiments. Then use lotus leaf to wrap the pork and steam the wrapped pork.
Guilin Shui Ci Ba
